Instagram and the numbers

Instagram and the Numbers - The Neon Tree Blog

Is your business on Instagram? We hope you are making this platform a part of your social media marketing strategy. If not, you might be missing out, big time. This is true especially if you operate B2C! Couple this with powerful visuals and you’re on a trajectory to something big. Here is why:

The amount of users on Instagram is massive. There are over 500 million monthly active users, 300 plus million daily users, 4.2 billion likes daily, 95 million new videos and images daily! Talk about colossal. This makes 216,000 photos being posted every minute. Makes you want to find the best social media strategy company right? We don’t blame you.

Brands are taking advantage of this buzz. 90% of interbrand 100 companies now are on Instagram – and 80% of these companies are active weekly. If your target market is American, it’s even more important to get on Instagram. Here’s why: almost 30% of the American population or over 77 million users are on Instagram. And these guys are active at least once a month. In just two years (2018), the 77 million number will exceed 100 million. American millennials on the other hand, are obviously on Instagram daily. So if the U.S. market is your target, having a great Instagram strategy in place is absolutely paramount, and this is even more true if you want to target the younger demographic.

54% of brands that are on Instagram use custom Facebook tabs to promote their Instagram accounts. And as you might have guessed, photos receive a lot more engagement than videos. Visuals do so well because our brain has the ability to process them 60,000 times faster than words and texts. Meaning, your consumers respond better to visuals. People remember 80% of what they see, 20% of what they read and just 10% of what they hear. Simply put, the power of great visuals is limitless.

As for the current giants of the Instagram space, the top retailers on Instagram by followers are: Nike, Adidas, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior, Christian Louboutin, Dolce & Gabana and Gucci. So retailers with online stores, we hope your e-commerce social media strategy is on point. Get active on Instagram – your bottom line depends on it!
